Physical Activity Participation
For the 2018-2019 school year, coaches and program advisers from KIPP Triumph Academy have offered and implemented an official Flag Football team as an after school activity. Currently we have 30 scholars ranging from 5-8 grade who participate in drills, strength and condition, as well as organized Flag Football games. Scholars are learning the value of hard work and good character while getting to be a part of a team and family of scholars who share the same interests. We are looking to expand and continue growing as a program in the future! Fuel Up To Play 60 has inspired us to give scholars a chance to get that 60 minutes of activity a day!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The major challenges we have faced thus far have been turning scholars away from the program due to so much interest in it. We looked at grades and demerits to determine the scholars that we would accept first, and put some of the other scholars on the back burner until they can successfully raise their grades up to participate.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The scholars that are involved in the Flag Football program are holding themselves more accountable in the classroom. Behavior problems have decreased and completed lifework has increased with those scholars who are involved in our program.
