At Kolda Elementary Fitness and Eating Healthy are promoted on a daily basis in a variety of ways. Coaches discuss the food groups and healthy eating habits with students at the end of class 2-3 times a week. The Active Life Curriculum is used for all grade levels to promote a healthy lifestyle. Health and fitness vocabulary words are taught on a weekly basis as well. A dietician from the local Children's Hospital visited and presented to our students. She used a variety of activities to engage the students and introduced them to myplate.com. A representative/dietician from Texas A&M Corpus Christi will visit with grade levels 2-5 and begin a once a week, 6 week nutrition program. It's Your Life Foundation will present to all grade levels on how to take care of their bodies and stay drug free. Kolda Elementary participated in the Walk Across Texas Program and ran a total of 16,455 miles in 8 weeks. Running club was promoted at Kolda Elementary and the second year running club at Kolda now has 150 participants and practice twice a week. Our running club won first place at Mission Fit Possible. We had the most participants in the race for the second year in a row. A bulletin board called Step Into Action was created to display pictures of our students in action during P.E. or participating in our local races.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The eagerness and excitement our students show when coming to P.E. class.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Parents help with the running club and model exercising as well.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Will continue everything that has been done this year but hope to add more resources/presenters etc.
