Launching Walk to School Community Walk

On October 7, 2015, our school and community partners joined together to walk to school together. What was unique this year was we were joined by a very special guest, Scott Lagasse Jr. Our Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassadors provided a very special breakfast for all of our Community Members that participated in the walk. We had over 150 community members participate.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our PTO parents helped to prepare the breakfast for the students that participated. The police dept. sent officers to keep us safe on our walk. Our local TPO provided our special guest with his race car. Our mayor came to support our walk.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students have a huge interest in walking to school and trying to get 10,000 steps every day. In each PE class they try very diligently to get 2,000 steps.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have incorporated this into our Morning Mile and ever since our Walk to School event, we have over 40 children trying to get 100 miles for this school year. We utilize pedometers to motivate the students that were purchased with FUTP 60 Funds.
