Our Fuel Up to Play 60 Team kicked off our program by teaching a day of our Physical Education classes each semester. The Team worked together to make a lesson they could go through with each class about the importance of making healthy choices both in nutrition and physical activity. They also created a survey they had the student body complete to vote on foods they would like to see in our cafeteria and activities they would like to do in our physical education classes. Finally, they took the students to our multi-purpose building and put them through a game which got them physically active and built on teamwork skills.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The leaders grouped up and created different sections of the presentation. The Advisors created time for them to work together and gave them some guidelines.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
A challenge we faced was getting all of the team members together at the same time. We set up more meetings to get everyone together to finalize the plans for the lesson.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We are going to carry this Play throughout the school year by examining the survey results. With that information, we will work with our cafeteria to try to offer some of the choices students had. Also, the team is working with our physical education teacher to incorporate some of the activities the students were interested in into our physical education classes.
