Let's Dance Contest

The Fuel Up to Play 60 team was excited to host our Kickoff event this past Friday morning! This year for our Kickoff event, we hosted a dance contest for grades K-8 to the song Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae). All classes had been practicing their dance all week, which they performed in front of the school. They were placed in categories (K-2, 3-5, and 6-8) and were encouraged to come up with their own creative moves. To make the event even more special, we had two Northwestern University football players join us to be the guest judges for the competition. They were each given numbered cards 1-10 and were asked to critique each grade's dance (just like Dancing with the Stars). The class in each grade category that received the highest score earned a bonus PE class or a bonus recess! Our top grades were 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 8th grade! The NU student athletes were amazing and we look forward to seeing them at our meetings throughout the school year. We also handed out #EatLikeanAthlete flyers that showcase healthy food options from the Chicago Bears players and other local pro athletes. We ask many local athletes to share their favorite foods and we shared the list with our school community. Finally, students were encouraged to take a picture with one of their favorite healthy foods and we will add them to our own Bannockburn School FUTP 60 #eatlikeabulldog flyer to be made later this year. Overall, it was an unbelievable event!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students were given time throughout the week during their class periods to work on their dances with their teachers. Many teachers were involved in the process of brainstorming ideas for moves for the dances and were also participants.
