Physical Activity Participation

Since the start of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Movement Club at Kellman Elementary School in January, students have more energy, are not as argumentative, and are not wasting their breakfast. They look forward to dancing, jumping rope, playing basketball, doing hula hoops or just walking around in the gym before class starts in the morning. This is a Fuel Up to Play 60 physical activity that we will continue to do year after year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and adults worked together as a team by planning the Movement Club, giving it its name, and the students signed up other students to join the Movement Club. We also work together to plan a variety of movements.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Next year, we plan to add a healthy eating component to this Play and get our students on board by eating more fruits and vegetables.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

It was a challenge trying to get everyone on board. We started early and had our procedures in place to overcome this challenge. We plan to be add more classrooms and even let the teachers get involved.
