Library Day with Milk

Each class at Sam Rayburn Elementary has a designated library time. During this time, our librarian will read a book and discuss thematic elements with students. To complement Fuel Up to Play 60, for the previous two weeks classes were read an age-appropriate book about cows or milk production. Then they were given a milk mustache sticker from Fuel Up to Play 60 and allowed to take a picture in a photo booth. Students then selected their library books and checked out. At check-out, they were given their choice of chocolate or regular milk. Overall, this allowed students to have some fun while learning about milk production and healthy eating habits. The milk mustache stickers and milk drinks to go were a huge hit.

How did you accomplish your goals?

To support this Play, we worked with the cafeteria to provide cold milk snacks and with the librarian to select appropriate books to complement our goal of touting the benefits of dairy to our students.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students were encouraged to take pictures in the photo booth. The photo booth was set up and manned by Sam Rayburn High School Beta Club members. The elementary students enjoyed working with the older kids to take fun pictures!
