The Detroit Lions visited our school this winter and the community response was terrific! Leading up to the assembly, the SLT went around in pairs to each room with our pledge banner and explained the upcoming events. At the assembly, two students from the SLT introduced each coach and explained why the event was important for our school and healthy choices. At the end of the assembly, one student from the SLT was interviewed by our local paper. She shared that being on the SLT has helped her not only think about her own healthy choices, but how to help others be healthy as well. She mentioned the posters we make to inspire others and the food we’ve been able to share with our school thanks to the grant.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The SLT set up times with each teacher in the building to present to their classes. Teachers were supportive of the initiative and gave feedback to the students after each presentation.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We were able to get our community aware of physical fitness and healthy choices by sharing this event ahead of time with parents and other community members. Students left inspired!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Overall, students are talking more about being leaders and being healthy. The SLT in particular has taken great pride in leading the school in healthy choices. They have gained confidence as speakers and trend setters for good choices!
