Our students were lucky enough to be able to visit Golden Oaks dairy farm this past fall. Students were able to pet a calf, learn about what the cow ate everyday, see cows being milked, see some prize winning cows (the size of those cows, wow!!!!), and learning what a day looks like for a cow. This was an amazing experience for our students. For some of our students, this is the first time being to a farm, let alone seeing/touching a cow in real life. Thank you Fuel Up to Play 60 and Midwest Dairy Council!!!!!!
What improvements have you seen at your school?
The students would talk about their experience with different grade levels during lunch and our milk consumption has gone up in second grade.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
One challenge that we faced was the group size we had going to the farm. We have about 100 second graders and I had to make sure the farm would be able to accommodate us while visiting. The farm was great making sure we could make smaller groups and that they had enough people staffed that day to take us around.
