Physical Activity Participation

We started a lunchtime intramural program. We have 40-minute lunches and we wanted to find a way to get our students to move during school, as well as provide something to get them together. We do not have time after school, so this was a unique option to our situation. We started with kickball and the kids had a blast. Students make their own teams, then we make a schedule. If your team plays that day, you eat lunch first and then play for 20 minutes. We keep standings, have a playoff, and crown a champion. We hope to secure the grant and get more equipment to provide more activities.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We hope to secure the FUTP 60 grant and make this our Play for the year.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenge was finding the time to create an intramural league. We decided on lunch because it is too dark before school and we do not have a lot of kids after school. We also do not have a gym, so we have to find activities that we can do outside.
