Physical Activity Participation

Lyons Elementary hosts many after-school activities every day. Our goal is to get our students active. An active child is a healthy child, which in turn makes a great student. The after-school activities range from physical to mental activities with a mix of nutrition. We offer: Soccer Club, Basketball Club, Basketball Skills Clubs, Ballet Folkoriaco for 3rd–5th, Ballet Folkoriaco for K–2, Chess, Gardening Club, Cooking Club, Baseball for Pre-K, Basketball for Pre-K, Scratch (Computer Coding), Parent Computer Class, and Parent English Class. We believe in working with the entire family to create a strong foundation for our students and community.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers worked together to identify students’ needs scholastically and physically. We established activities that would interest and help students to be active. We even found classes for their parents.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenge we faced was to keep students motivated who were enrolled in after-school tutorial instead of after-school enrichment. The teachers establish growth charts so the students monitor progress.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by planning together as a staff. We identified our students' and parents' needs and were able to help them physically as well as mentally. We encouraged our families to get active.
