We introduced new games to the 1st and 2nd grade classes. 1st grade played "Volcanoes and Ice Cream Cones", 2nd grade played "Fire the Cannons".
Volcanoes and Ice Cream Cones involved breaking the class into 2 groups, Group 1 was called the Volcanoes Group 2 the Ice Cream Cones. The gym floor had been covered with plastic objects, each team member raced to turn the object to match there team label. After 2 minutes the whistle was blown and the team with the most objects matching the team won. The game was played 5 times during the given PE class."
"Fire the Cannons" was played by the 2nd grade. The class was divided into 2 teams with 1 defender for each team. The gym floor has been covered with a variety of objects for them to "fire" a ball at. The job of the defender was to stop the opposing team from hitting a target, if a target was it, the person who hit it went and collected their loot. The team with the most after each team member "fired" won that game. The games were played 5 times during the PE class period.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The Physical Education teacher has chosen to implement these new games into his classes. He has also asked that if there are any other upper class students that would like to come in and teach the lower class more ways to be active or new games, he is all for it. The students loved the games and can't wait to play them again.
