Our fifth grade FUTP 60 members got to assist Chef Harbaugh with the Key Lime Smoothie. Students juiced the lemons and peeled bananas while Chef Harbaugh mixed the ingredients in our Waring Smoothie Blender. The Key Lime Smoothie was made with locally made yogurt, milk, ice, lime juice, bananas, pineapple, and spinach. This was our first time we added spinach to one of our smoothies. Being the month of March we wanted a green smoothie.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Students in our FUTP 60 group assisted Chef Harbaugh with juicing the limes and peeling the bananas. Other students assisted in adding the spinach and pineapple to the blender. Then several students served the smoothies to the various tables where students had ordered the smoothies. Students take the made smoothies on trays and collect tickets, noting that they delivered a smoothie to each individual that made a purchase.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
According to Chef Harbaugh's schedule, we try to serve smoothies every other week. The students in the committee assist with choosing the type of smoothies and the ingredients. We then create posters to advertise the smoothie, make announcements and serve smoothies during each lunch period.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Students frequently ask when the next smoothie would be sold and what kind. Students also suggest ingredients. Our FUTP 60 students then visit various classes to see how well they liked or disliked the smoothie. Suggestions are noted and then we discuss the findings during our next meeting.
