Maldonado Smoothie Bike
We were able to try out our new smoothie bike with 4th and 5th graders who won a campus contest. We wanted to see who could come up with the most creative posters during our kick-off and one 4th grade and one 5th grade class won. As a prize, their class won smoothies in class. Students were able to use their energy to create the smoothies. It was great and we can't wait to continue this with other classrooms and at school events.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our SHAC (Student Health Advocacy Team) worked with our cafeteria manager and district food department to get the ingredients that were needed. We then invited the winning classes to come and make their own smoothies using the smoothie bike we just won.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The adults were able to prepare all the smoothie ingredients (bananas, strawberries, blueberries, water and milk). Then the students took turns on the bike until all the ingredients were blended and ready for drinking. Afterwards, the adults went around serving the students.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This will continue to be a reward system we use at our campus to recognize classrooms. It is a healthy and exciting way to reward classrooms. We will continue to work with the SHAC team and food service department. If the future, we may use different ingredients for our smoothies to provide some variety.
