Marathon Champions
This is our first year starting a Marathon Club. At first, students were not really interested because it seemed like an extreme amount of running. I then began speaking with students, making them realize that daily activities in physical education would also be included in their running logs. Many activities require running maybe not laps, but throughout the game or activity in which students are participating. With the help of a Nike Marathon grant, our number has increased to 45 runners that earn Nike rewards after completing every 26.2 miles, which encourages students as well. Students from different age groups have become closer and encourage each other daily to reach their goals. Next year, we would like to increase the total number of Marathon Club members.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students have become more responsible and give more effort in the classroom because of their involvement in Marathon Club. To participate, students need to keep their grades up, so they are giving more effort in all aspects of the classroom.
