Physical Activity Participation

Promoting physical fitness outside of class is a top priority at Kolda. This year we decided to join the national Marathon Kids program. One hundred sixty kids were registered via their website. The program offers incentives to get students motivated. Students can earn a t-shirt, special shoelaces, a metal shoelace deubre and a Nike bracelet. The First Marathon requires students to run 26.2 miles to earn their t-shirt. The Second Marathon requires students to run 52.4 miles to earn their shoelaces. The Third Marathon requires 78.06 miles of running to earn the metal shoelace deubre. To date, we have 101 students who have earned t-shirts and 10 who have earned shoelaces. Several runners are approaching the 78.06 mark at this point. This program has motivated students highly. Coaches have witnessed and documented a tremendous improvement in the runners' times in 5ks since the beginning of the year. Younger students are eager to participate in the program and are registering in 5ks as well. They are on their way to earning their t-shirts.
