Market Day at Garrett Morgan High School

Garrett Morgan is located in a food desert area. Garrett Morgan partnering with the Cleveland Food Bank operates a Market Day event every second and fourth Friday. This market is available to our greater school wide community. During Market Day we have a variety of activities such as one of the local hospital performing health screening, a local dietitian preparing samples dishes, yoga health and recipes handouts.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to continue to work with the Cleveland Food Bank to keep our school as a community food bank distribution site. We will also continue to work with other community partners.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our biggest challenges was time. Our teaching and support staff volunteer for Market Day. Sometimes schedules would conflict. Wegrew and required more hands on. We partnered with our community bushiness and organizations to assist with staffing our Market Day.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our students and adults work together hand and hand to sort, and distribute and clean up before, during and after our Market Day distribution twice a month. Our students via our Special Education population has a class where they learn to package and sort the fruits and vegetables. Our Seniors earn community hours by volunteering at Market Day. The staff from our custodian to our secretary all volunteer for Market Day. Our slogan one associated with Cleveland "ALL IN".
