Community Involvement, Student Leadership, Success with Funds
We took part of the Treasure Valley Mayor's Challenge. Schools were challenged to walk/run as many miles as possible during the month of October. Our school won!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Students and teachers organized a system to track laps and encourage students to get out and walk/run. Parents were also invited to come and walk with their students.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We got those kids out there and running. Students were so excited at the chance to participate during recesses.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
We started off strong, but noticed less kids were participating as the month went on. So, we came up with motivating strategies to keep students engaged in the challenge. We set up challenges between classrooms, grades, and so on. We also brought in 'guest' runners, like the high school football players. We really noticed more students getting back involved.
