Mayport Market
Mayport Coastal Science Academy is committed to teaching students and staff the benefits of eating and drinking healthier. Since November 28th, 2018, we have made over 600 smoothies and provided a take-home recipe that gives step by step instructions and includes low fat milk, 1 vegetable, 1 fruit and an optional protein. A local chef, Kevin Patrich, came and made the smoothies for students and parents during our bi-weekly Mayport Market event. We are committed to promoting healthier eating habits. We will continue our smoothie making and extend into other healthier cooking ideas for our next events. Mayport appreciates this unique opportunity to make students, parents and staff aware of healthier options; we were limited and had difficulties making our healthy ideas/awareness extend into so many areas. Thank you Fuel up to Play 60 for making Mayport Coastal Science Academy a healthier school and community.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We continued to connect to community. Working with BEAM, a local organization and a local chef to volunteer time made these events possible.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

As a teacher, I interact with students and parents on a daily basis. Smoothies and a healthier eating environment have become a topic of discussion.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are committed to making our school and community a healthier a place to live. We will bring awareness to healthier decisions through our classes, after-school programs and community events.
