Physical Activity Participation
Following a meeting by the FUTP 60 Staff Leaders, and a training at the School Staff Meeting, a plan was incorporated into the school day to begin adding physical activity breaks during the day to increase student alertness, attentiveness, physical activity, and productivity. Various physical activity breaks are taking place in the classrooms each day. They include student-led activities, on-line exercise tutorials, and DVDs. The staff and students love them!

How did you accomplish your goals?

We met with the FUTP 60 advisor team to plan the activity breaks, and then asked our Principal for her support in implementing this school-wide.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Due to its popularity, we will continue this for the future, and are putting together various resources for each teacher to use to provide physical activity breaks that vary from time-to-time.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our school has a rather complex schedule and struggled with when we should have these activity movement breaks takes place. It was decided and supported by the teacher to use separate times per class, to avoid interrupting academic time in some classes. Each teacher was very devoted to implementing the break at the most advantageous time for their students.
