Physical Activity Participation

At McDermott, we used some of our funding last year to purchase accerlerometers for our 100 Mile Club members to use for tracking their mileage. Our students are excited to get their pedometers during PE, recess, and after school. They are learning responsibility by being held accountable for their participation, keeping track of their steps/miles, and by challenging themselves and others to participate and succeed at reaching their goals. We have gone from having 25 of our students involved in the 100 Mile Club last year to 55 involved this school year. We hope to keep increasing our numbers in the coming years!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Since there are not enough accelerometers for our kids to participate all at once, they were split into two groups. One group meets after school once a week, and our other group meets during their recess time 4-5 days a week.
