Michael Owens McKamy Elementary School Carrollton/Farmers-Branch ISD It is with great pleasure that I write this letter about my students at Charlie McKamy Elementary School. This is my first year teaching physical education at McKamy and I am blessed to say what a wonderful group of students I have. Students welcomed and accepted me as their physical education teacher with open arms and I could not be happier. It feels good when your students want to give you a hug each time they see you. McKamy students are hard workers and very passionate in everything they do. Fuel Up to Play 60 students are devoted to eating healthier and helping others as well. The Fuel Up to Play 60 team not only helps students choose healthier foods, they also put up posters and bulletin boards throughout the school to promote a healthier lifestyle. The Fuel Up Play 60 team consists of a mixed group of 4th and 5th graders who show quality leadership skills all day, everyday. All students arrive to PE class ready to learn and give maximum effort. The FUTP 60 students, as well as all of the McKamy students, are very respectful, honest and hardworking individuals whom I love teaching. I enjoy coming to school each day to see all the smiling faces walking through the gym door asking “ what game are we playing today, Coach?” As the physical education teacher at Charlie McKamy Elementary, I would like to say to all my students “Thank You.” Thank you for accepting me with open arms. Thank you for the hugs, the maximum effort each day in PE class, and all your hard work. You guys are the BEST!!! Sincerely, Coach Owens

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

During PE class, students look at photos of food. Students then tell which food group the item belongs to. Students fill out "My Plate" sheets, color them and take the home. I have a prepared list of healthy foods and challenge students to eat foods from that list. Students must get parents signature before the list is return to me for a healthy eating star by their name.
