Mighty Leps Get Walking
The Mighty Leps of La Grange Middle School kicked off fuel to play with our nutritionist from the cafeteria giving them samples of smoothies to try. The smoothies are new this year in the cafeteria. The students were able to suggest different flavors that they like. The students were also introduced to the Mighty Milers program that will be done in the PE classes. The students, PE teachers and aides are commited to walking every day for 6 to 8 weeks.During winter months, they will walk less inside. In March, they will pick up the program again. They are also committed to eating healhier foods.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The Mighty Leps from La Grange Middle School are participating in the Mighty Milers program. The students and PE teachers are working together by walking together. They are encouraging each other to reach their goals.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are planning to walk every day for six weeks. During the cold winter months we will walk one to two times a week in the gym. We will continue the walking program in March again. We plan on keeping the walking program as part of our PE program.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have seen the students enjoying the walks. They were sore the first few days. Some students continue the walk at their house. We have seen the students walking or running to reach their goals. They are amazed by how many miles they have walked so far.
