Mighty Miler Club

Students and teachers were invited to participate in the Mighty Miler program this year as a tool to get more active inside and outside of school. This is the first year our campus has participated in Mighty Milers and we have had great success. As a part of our coordinated school health initiative we included the staff on our campus and about 50% of them have signed up. We allow the students to come before school once a week and we encourage the students to run on their own at home. The P.E. coaches keep track of the participants' miles and distribute prizes to them for every 26.2 miles logged, with an ultimate goal of 104.8 miles. By participating in this program the students have discovered a love for running and have been challenging themselves to get as many miles as possible.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

By creating a love for running.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Students would walk and not give an accurate lap count at the end of the running, so we added an extra coach to count and the prizes took care of the walking.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Prizes were the motivation in the beginning but now the students are motivated by meeting their goal and competing against peers.
