Access to Healthy Foods, Student Leadership, Teamwork
We held a Milk It! cheese taste test during our wellness week. We had students choose between Colby Jack and Pepper Jack. Members of our SWAT team went around the school with our FUTP 60 cart and handed out samples to students and staff. Colby Jack came out victorious and the results were posted in the cafeteria.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The adults and students at the school worked together throughout the whole process. The adults (SHAQ) prepared the food and the students (SWAT) dispersed the samples and posted the data.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We accomplished our goal by working with the food service department and our district food service office. We planned the taste test a few months ahead to get everything finalized.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
It was an improvement to see students try out foods they had never tried before. A lot of our students had never been exposed to pepper jack cheese so that was something new for them to try. It was an improvement because our students were able to see what other dairy options are out there. This was also our second taste test this week (our first was a veggie) so we were able to run our schedule a little better by going class to class.
