Community Involvement

It is a true honor to be working at a school with such caring students. Our 5th grade FUTP 60 Team took it upon themselves to help serve their community by setting up a Canned Food and Toy Drive to help those families that are less fortunate. Our school is located in a community where 95% of families are economically challenged. This motivated our 5th grade FUTP 60 team to start a Canned Drive this year. Their goal is to get enough Canned Goods to help at least 20 families. They will be hosting a Teachers vs. Students Volleyball game where all proceeds go to their cause. This project has left a very warm feeling in my heart to know that these kids are going above and beyond to help serve their community. The amazing part of this story is that is is only one of many things that our 5th grade Mission Wellness Team will do during the 2016-2017 school year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our school has a great rapport when it comes to students and Adults. During the school year, our 5th grade Mission Wellness Team provides numerous opportunities to get adults involved in their projects. For example, our 5th grade students organize a Health and Safety Fair where we average 500-700 participants annually. We bring various screenings and healthcare organizations to help educate our community. This service learning project has become a major tradition here on our campus.
