MixxedFit exercise classes for parents and students to participate after school. Students and parents participated in Zumba-like exercise to promote active and healthy living. Information also was passed out to inform the community of health issues. Bringing exercise to the parents who might not have enough money to attend a gym was the reason for this program and for the kids to see their parents exercising, hoping to get the entire family moving and exercising together.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

By participating in exercise classes together and being healthy.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More parents are wanting to participate in the exercise classes.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

To get the parents out of their comfort level and to try to get the kids to participate with their parents in exercise classes. I overcame them by talking to the parents and not to worry about going at a fast pace. Do what they can.
