Montclair National School Breakfast Week
The student team started to notice a decrease in the number of students eating breakfast in the classroom. They decided to do something about it to help their classmates. They talked to the Cafeteria Manager of the school to see if what they were thinking was right. Students were not eating that much school breakfast in the mornings. They got with their Program Advisor and decided to promote School Breakfast during National School Breakfast Week. The team got together and planned an event. They decided to give stickers that promoted eating a healthy school breakfast to all students that where doing just that. The team then decided that they would break up into teams of two and to make sure every student in every classroom would have a chance to get a sticker. As the week ended, the team went back to the Cafeteria Manager to see if there was an increase in School Breakfast being eating and she said "yes." The team was so excited that they could make a positive difference for their school and for their classmates.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The team had to work with many adults. They had to get permission from the principle to go into the classrooms. They had to work with the Program Advisor to get supplies they needed. The kids also had to work with the cafeteria manager to see if they made a difference.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The team was thinking that they could randomly pick a day of the week to continue to give stickers to kids. This will encourage them to continue eating school breakfast. They also thought of surveying the students about what they like and don’t like. This way we could get better food and more kids will want to eat.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More students are coming to school and enjoying eating breakfast instead of bringing their own. The kids know the importance of having breakfast and how it will help them with their school work .
