Monte Cristo Elementary Fitness Club
We are pleased to announce that Monte Cristo Elementary now has a fitness club!!! Personal fitness is a major emphasis in our club due to a national problem with escalating obesity, health problems due to poor decision-making, and decreasing levels of physical fitness. Our fitness program is structured, dynamic, energetic, and vigorous! Students meet once a week for an hour where they participate in various activities. Students and parents have been pleased with our program while we are excited that we are able to provide this enrichment for our students.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Coach Galvan and I discussed the importance of starting a fitness club and the positive impact that it would have on our students. Many of our students are unable to join city leagues due to transportation and financial hardships. With our fitness club we are able to enrich the lives of our students physically and socially. Our students are very enthused with the start of our fitness club and attendance has been phenomenal. Our parents are equally satisfied with the program.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Fortunately, we have not had to face many challenges with our fitness club with the exception of transportation. There have been a few instances where our parents have been late in picking up their child however; our open communication with the parents has alleviated this challenge.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We will continue our inaugural year with our fitness club. Plans to end fitness club in December have now been extended to the end of the school year!!! With all the positive feedback, Coach Galvan and I have decided it would be beneficial for our students. We have also agreed that our fitness club will be formed every school year.
