Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation
Our Kick Off Event included our varsity high school football team coming to our school helping to run 10 different football related stations for our students' participation. This set the stage for our half day activity days that we have once a month during the entire school year. In order to promote healthy eating, we had an Oatmeal Bar set up in our cafeteria so that students could get a healthy start to the day. We provided toppings for the oatmeal as well, such as fruit, brown sugar, and natural peanut butter. We also provided low fat milk for the students to have as a drink with their breakfast. We have used funding that we have received to help offset the cost of the Oatmeal Bar breakfast for our students and staff, in addition to low fat yogurt parfaits made for students and staff after the completion of a 5K walk. We have also used past funding to help purchase exercise equipment for students to use in our Cardio Room. Our administration has been extremely supportive of Fuel Up to Play 60 and has allowed us to have a half day each month devoted to all FUTP 60 activities. We have had several of our high school athletic teams come to our school to help with our FUTP 60 days as well as other community members who have come in and led our students in dancing and Yoga
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our student team and adult leaders work together to plan our our monthly activity days and implement them for or entire school. Our student leaders are responsible for running our activity stations and modeling good leadership skills by taking on an active roll in our program.
