Access to Healthy Foods, Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation
During the 2017-18 school year at Lafayette Elementary School, students have been Fueling Up to Play 60 and Getting Active. A Fuel Up/Get Active poster contest was held, where students portrayed their nutrition and active living ideas. Parents are spearheading the recess running club two days a week. We recently had a visit from the Washington State Dairy Ambassador and Blitz, where these moostaches were given. We are having a blast with good health!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
A committed group of parents at Lafayette is facilitating the running club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This began last year, and is projected to continue for at least four more years, while their children are in grade school. They have invested time in developing the tracking system, encouraging student participation, motivating adult participation, finding and sharing rewards with the students, along with health staff.
