More Equipment = More Play
We added more loose equipment to the playground area during recess. We added a recess cart to encourage more active play. The recess cart included frisbees, soccer balls, footballs, jump ropes, and hula hoops. The third grade students put the equipment out in the morning, and the second grade students bring the equipment in at the end of the day. This gets students involved, and take on responsibility roles as well. We also have a large field that we put out sets of cones for goals, and painted lines to create several areas to play games in. So more students are involved and less students standing and watching.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to keep using the loose equipment all year round and every year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students take on the responsibility to be sure the equipment gets set out and brought back in.

How did you accomplish your goals?

With a grant from FUPT 60, we were able to purchase the recess cart and some equipment for it.
