In the morning before school starts, students waiting in the cafeteria to be dismissed for class have the opportunity to dance for 15 minutes in front of the stage. Our music teacher and I have teamed up, and he plays anything from Cha cha slide, to Lean and Dabb, to Thriller, to Cotton Eye Joe, to get our kids moving and active first thing in the morning! We have up to 70 kids dancing after they eat and before they go to class. It's a blast! Sometimes you can catch our teachers jamming out too!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More of our students come into the cafeteria in the morning and have breakfast so they can be a part of the dance crew. Anyone can join in, as long as their behavior is top notch! They know the expectations that we hold and will be held accountable, and they abide by the rules because the Dance Crew is SO much fun!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students lead the dances and work with the teachers to teach specific dances and the students keep us up to date on the current songs that allow easy to follow moves with lyrics. The students are always excited to teach the teachers!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Our administration understands the impact physical activity has on focus and are gracious enough to allow this to happen every morning. The dances the students learn can be taught to families and friends throughout the years!
