In-Class Physical Activity Breaks — Good For Mind and Body
Physical Activity Participation
Lyford High School Move Mindfully classes began in October. Students participated in daily 25 minute yoga-like movement class. Students also received a yoga mat for their personal use. Additionally, students received mini lessons on healthy nutrition and presentation "54321+8" that encourages students to include the following on a daily basis: 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, 4 glasses of water, 3 good laughs, 2 hours or less of screen time, 1 hours of physical activity, and 8 or more hours of sleep. In March of 2018, Lyford High School hosted a parent picnic in observance of Texas Public School Week. Parents and students participated in ropes activities that promoted physical activity. In April of 2018, Lyford High School hosted Senior Day. The full day event included activities promoting physical activity and health and wellness.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students were receptive to the activities and campus staff were supportive in assisting in order to make each activity/event successful.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Making activities/events fun was the first step. The second step was creating a strong team to assist in implementing the activities/event.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Based on data from current Parent Surveys and student focus groups, students would like more opportunities to participate in run/walk events. That will be taken into consideration as we plan for the coming school year.
