Move Teacher Move Walk across Texas
For the pasted three years, we have only had our students compete against each other with the help of Walk Across Texas, 100 Mile Club, and Marathon Kids. This year, we got the teachers involved in competing in Walk Across Texas. We formed seven teams with six members in each team. Each team met their goal of 830 miles in eight weeks. Together as a school we logged in 8498 miles. Next year we hope to get other high schools involved.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished this goal with team work and communication. Each team had a team leader who collect their team’s miles. Then I collect all the miles and send out an email to each member which helped keep them motivated to log in more miles.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

After this competition, we as a school, district, and city now compete with other cities in the It’s Time Texas Challenge. Our teachers and staff love to compete and this in turn motivates us to keep on moving and find ways to stay healthy. The small taste of the Walk Across Texas motivated us to do more.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge we had was the week of Thanksgiving. Keeping track of miles and finding time to work out. Most teachers did not check their email during the break and lost focus. But it was up to their lead to find ways to motivate them.
