In-Class Physical Activity Breaks — Good For Mind and Body

Success with Funds
We applied for funding this school year through Fuel Up to Play 60. We were awarded money for physical activity as well as in the kitchen area. One of items we want to incorporate with our students is to design a Minds in Motion room with the funding through Fuel Up to Play 60. We have been working on this project for about 1 year now and with the funding we received, we should be able to complete the project some time this school year. We want to have a room set up to get students moving and using their minds a little bit to help with the academic side of school. We want to design an obstacle course with balance beams and hurdles, using their eyes, and all senses to help stimulate their brain a little bit by a fun activity. We would like to thank Fuel Up To Play 60 for approving our request this school year. Hopefully, the room will be up and running this school year for our students.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are planning to have the room set up for students to use year after year to stimulate their brains in a fun and physical way.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

With the room established, teachers now can take students to the room when they see the students getting sluggish and not paying attention to the instruction. This way, we can get the students up and moving and hopefully stimulate their brains for the academic side of school as well.
