This year I created a "Movement Hallway" where students can "move with a purpose". I wanted to offer opportunities to students who needed a movement break and time to refocus. Students in all grades and of all abilities are able to leave the class room and use the Movement Hallway when needed. In addition, all teachers allow the students to use the hallway in transition to their next class. This allows the students to expend energy and move!!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

My students are able to refocus and be redirected to task more easily after they use the movement hallway.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenge I faced was getting my movement hallway to be used in the other buildings in my district. Some felt that the hallway was a great idea for a school with a special education population and would not be of use to typical students. I was able to educate them to the fact that ALL students of ALL abilities need to be provided opportunities for movement breaks to improve attention and focus.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

It was a HUGE hit in ALL 3 buildings! I know I have the support needed to implement it again in the years following!
