Moving to Get Fit

I started an after school workout club in our school gym for not only our staff, but for students and parents in our community who wished to participate. We engage in a variety of exercises such as cardio, cardio with weights, HIIT, Tabata, step aerobics, kickboxing, and Yoga. I work diligently to make sure that our school is successful in reaching a goal of moving and getting active for at least 60 minutes a day.  In addition to promoting an active lifestyle, I also try to impress upon our school the importance of eating healthy foods as well. We have had great success with our staff, students, and parents moving and getting fit in our after school club.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our biggest challenge was finding an area big enough for our club to exercise. Our gym was being used for other activities.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We worked together with our principal to work out a schedule so that our club would have ample time to work out in our gym.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

My love for exercising will hopefully extend over to my staff, students, and parents. I hope to keep working with my principal to be able to continue using our gym for our after school workout club.
