Much More Movement

This year, Northview Elementary, home of the All-Stars, has added new options for students to be able to choose from while out at recess. We have used the Peaceful Playgrounds teachers' guide to recess games and markings kit, which was purchased last year to create new innovative options for students. The staff spent a night painting new markings, which has provided numerous new ways for students to be engaged and active during their time at recess. Along with Peaceful Playgrounds, Northview Elementary has also begun a recess walking club where students can track their miles to earn rewards and work their way toward the 100 Mile Club during recess too. We have been enthused by the number of students who have taken the initiative and started to track their laps that they then convert to miles toward the 100 Mile Club. Go All-Stars!!!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We had four 4th and 5th grade students help with our "paint the playground" night. Once all the painting was completed, I was able to teach all of the activities that went along with the stencils. So far, students have been fired up about the options.
