Mireles Elementary had a guest speaker from Texas A&M AGRILIFE Extension come and present to our students for one day a week for six weeks. The students learned about a Healthy Plate and the portions that should be on your plate. The presenter also brought in healthy snacks for the students to sample. The students definitely enjoyed the healthy snacks. The information provided was very informative and can be life-changing if applied. The students also learned proper hand washing techniques that should be used throughout the day.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Overall, I think our students have become more aware of how living a healthy lifestyle can prolong their life. The students would come to school telling the coaches how they would tell their parents about what they learned in the My Plate class. The students would also share what they were eating for dinner and if it was healthy or not. I also noticed more of our younger students reminding others to wash their hands after blowing their nose or using the restroom.
