Myers Walking Club

Myers Elementary has a "Myers Walking Club" that meets twice a week for one hour. We have 18 students that come before school, have a HEALTHY snack, and talk about health and physical activity. After, they head to the gym and walk laps and then have a fun activity. When the students are walking, they put effort in to try and get more laps than the last time, or the rest of the group. They are then ready for their day.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We have many students that walk to and from school. When we planned this walking club, we decided to hold this in the morning before school. This eliminated the chance for students to be left after school to wait for their rides. This has worked out great for us.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

There are 2 adults that work together with this walking club. One adult greets the students, shares the snack and discussion. The other adult is in charge of walking and activity. This has worked out great.
