National Breakfast Week Challenge

Lisa A Pennington,   Waynesville Elementary School
NFL Play 60 Challenge

We challenged our kids to eat a healthy breakfast and sign up to do it all year long. We increased our breakfast during this week by 10% in the elementary and 25% in the MS/HS building. We thought that was a great achievement! We had a banner for the kids to sign for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program and they came down in the morning and during lunch, and almost every child in our elementary school signed it!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We offered new items all week and had a survey at the end of the week in both buildings to see what the kids wanted to keep and what they didn't. They really liked being included in the choice process.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We want to keep having the students be an integral part of what we serve as far as food choice, if it fits into our guidelines. It's always better if it's something they want to eat.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have more and more children coming in to breakfast every morning. Word of mouth is spreading like wildfire!
