I have been a physical education teacher for three years at a small private school in Randolph, NJ. Before I arrived there was very little flag football played in PE class and recess. Early on I began teaching flag football and football fundamentals and kids began to really enjoy it. Soon football was being played at recess, in PE, and even after school. This school year NFL FLAG sent our school a package with fifty flag belts and ten footballs. It was a very generous thing for them to do. I have been requesting this from NFL FLAG for about three years and they chose our school. Gottesman RTW Academy is very thankful that NFL FLAG and Fuel Up to Play 60 gave us this opportunity. Thank you, it has made a difference.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students in grades junior kindergarten all the way through the eighth grade are taking part in forms of football-related physical education.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I have implemented a flag football unit during the fall in physical education class. Students learn the rules and positions of the game. The unit concludes with teams making their own playbook and playing mini flag games.

How did you accomplish your goals?

I was able to accomplish my goals by using parts of the limited athletics budget to order some flag football gear, and with the help of the NFL FLAG program, who donated gear to us this school year.
