This year during the month of November, we challenged the students and their families to not drink any soda for the whole month. During class time, we discussed the different symptoms that soda can have on our body. Each week students received an accountability slip that provided another health tip about drinking no soda and gave them the ability to sign that they had successfully not had any soda that week. Students turned in these slips each week and the P.E. teacher tracked the students that were successful in drinking no soda all month to be entered into a prize bag. The prize bag included a basketball, t-shirt, water bottle and other various prizes. It was great to see not only students, but their families get involved.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

This challenge was for both students and their families. It was great to see whole families take the challenge and feel better about their health.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

One challenge we saw was buy-in from some of the staff. We have many staff members that drink soda regularly and the students took notice of those staff members.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This challenge was great for our whole community. We are hoping to promote another challenge like this again next school year.
