Community Involvement

A retired Northwestern football player came to PE classes to talk to kids about physical activity, eating healthy, making good choices, and perseverance. The students loved hearing these messages from someone other than their teacher.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students showed more interest. They loved asking him questions that related to health, sports, and academics.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to continue our partnership with Northwestern University. Their athletes are talented and smart. They work well with our students.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Scheduling was an issue at first. We wanted players to come for breakfast, but they couldn't get here in time so we changed our plan to have them in first period PE classes.
