Nutritious and Delicious

A school garden was planted and harvested by the FUTP 60 team members. We started plants from seeds and planted the plants in our garden. A schedule was made for team members to follow over summer break so someone was always watering and weeding the garden. We made delicious food items such as zucchini tomato bake with melted cheddar, parmesan and mozzarella and pumpkin cream cheese muffins. We also made a delicious kale, cranberry, Feta cheese salad. Students voted on the foods tasted and now we have them regularly on our breakfast and lunch menus. We also gave samples to our teachers and administrators for their in-service. They loved them!!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students are excited to try new food items and appreciate the fact that these foods are grown by our students. They also are aware of the nutrient value of these foods and know that they are good foods to eat.
