Obstacles for Turkey Trots

Our 5th grade students planned and organized our 2016 Turkey Trot! We had each grade level come at separate times to run the trot and afterwards we had apples and milk for everyone! All students and staff wore their favorite sports wear and every class made a turkey hat! It turned out to be a great day.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We let our Fuel Up 5th grade students come up with ideas to make this year's Turkey Trot different. They decided to add obstacles so that we weren't just running laps. They then planned 8 different obstacles (which were taught in PE class the week before to practice safety), helped set up the day of, lead warm ups, spoke about why it is important to eat healthy and get active, kept track of all runner laps, and helped clean up at the end.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We started planning a month in advance, met once a week, and made sure to meet with all staff and admin to make sure the schedule and plans worked for everyone!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We would love to see what our future 5th grade leaders have in mind for our next Turkey Trot!
