The Rusk Eagles High Stepper is the name of our student-led exercise club. Our goal is to reach one million steps before the school year ends. Each school day morning, the students walk for 60 minutes before school starts. We have different benchmarks we try to obtain each month. Each student was given a watch pedometer to track his/her own steps. After reaching different benchmarkers, the students receive different incentives (t-shirts, book bags, health books, etc.).  We started off with five students and have increased to 25 students. The students really enjoy the the club.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students talked about and found ways that they can get their families involved in a daily exercise program. Some of the students started walking with their families in the evening. They started sharing with their family ways the whole family could stay healthy. Students also were starting to make healtier choices.
