Our school does not have a P.E. teacher and the teachers needed some ideas for structured P.E., so our SHAC team came together and set up recess stations. The goal was to have students active 100% of the time and on task (to prevent misbehavior). The stations were a success. We had golf, lacrosse, skip-it, basketball, a football obstacle course and frisbee toss. It was tons of fun and the teachers and students both loved it.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our SHAC team came up with stations to have outside using equipment we received with funds from FUTP 60.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
This Play will last throughout the year and beyond because it is loved by both adults and students at the school. Every Friday we will set up the stations so students will be able to use all the equipment we were able to get with funding.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The initial challenge we had was that all the new equipment was not getting checked out by teachers. What our SHAC decided was that setting up stations outside might get classrooms more comfortable with using the equipment, and it worked.
