Pedometers are Powerful!

We used the pedometers from Fuel Up to Play 60 to create a student contest. Who can have the most steps in their log by the Winter Break? It has caused quite a buzz at school! You can hear the students walking down the halls by their "clicking" pedometers that are attached to their shoes and waists! When a student reaches 10,000 steps or more, they bring their pedometer to P.E., and we log the steps on individual fitness goal sheets! It's great on Mondays, because students get off the bus eager to show us their pedometers with over 40,000 steps on them because they were active on the weekend!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This is the 3rd year that we have done this contest! In August, students ask "when will we get our pedometers"? They begin the school anxious and ready to go!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Adults participate in the contest too!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students and teachers trying to outdo each other with the steps logged on the pedometers.
